The Pershing plot boldly tackles the challenge of Paris’s ring road, le péripherique, with a cantilever project. ‘Playground’ offers a very diverse programme (hotel, housing, offices, facilities, transport hub), divided between several constructions. The ground level is therefore the crucial nexus: a space that both unifies and connects, accessible to pedestrians in an area currently notable for its traffic and fragmented planning, and as such a big step towards the creation of a Greater Paris entity.

With this in mind, the programmation and design of the future public spaces is critical, and makes the ground level a showcase of the wider innovation developed at the project scale. The third spaces Bon Voyage café and rooftop restaurant are also a launch pad for cultural and sporting activities spreading to the public spaces. A set of moveable corners graces the site, with the aim of restoring a human scale to an area that has become more suited for cars than pedestrians. These corners – unique and particular urban furniture – are units of variable geometry, orchestrated by Sinny & Ooko, the team behind the Bon Voyage café.  They are flexible according to purpose, to the season, time of day and to the public - a permanent part of the site but distinctly mobile, adaptable to whatever events the project might stage.
